Chris D and I gave these rules a test over the weekend using Wargods of Aegyptus armies... It was good fun, we hope to try them again soon

Ah, cool. Is it the Open Desert? I wonder if the current one on their site is different. The picture on their site does not look nearly as cool as in your pics.

The mat has lots of patterns so depending on where you are looking it can look different.. it is a nice desert mat..

I enjoyed this game! One of the things I like about the rules was that it forced the player to choose which units will move forward and when, as opposed to letting the whole battle line roll forward uniformly. You really had to think about which units were going to get those activation points. Leaders are very important to this game, and I liked the rules for magic. It had a significant impact on the battle but did not feel overdone or that it was too powerful.

Things also seem to go bad rather quickly for the player that loses a unit, because he loses an activation die too, and it becomes harder to regain the initiative.

It would be interesting to see how this scales out with larger armies. We are hoping to try it with my Arthurian forces in a couple of weeks.
